What is it?
Genetic engineering is the action of genetically modifying plants DNA to introduce a new trait which does not occur in the natural species. This is then classified as a developed hybrid. Genetic engineering aims to produce crops to a larger scale and/or more fruit and products. These plants have been developed to survive in different climate conditions such as desert conditions, salinity and frost. These plants are developed for pest resistance and drought tolerance as well. It can take six to fifteen years to successfully develop a hybrid plant which is ready to be grown in a production crop.
